Tripura, 23 Oct 2025: The 24-hour bandh called by Tipra Civil Service led to severe unrest in Kamalpur subdivision’s Shantirbazar area on Thursday evening. Tension escalated when bandh supporters entered the Shantirbazar market, forcing traders to close their shops. However, the traders protested, leading to a heated altercation.
Soon after, a larger group of bandh supporters stormed the market. Police presence was minimal at that time. Local traders retaliated, resulting in a violent clash. During the chaos, bandh supporters set a vehicle on fire said local traders.
When the fire service arrived to douse the flames, their vehicle was vandalized. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Samudra Debbarma sustained a head injury after being hit by a brick. Salema BDO Abhijit Choudhury, who arrived at the spot to assess the situation, was also attacked and suffered a head injury.
A local businessman, Biplab Deb, sustained a severe eye injury after being struck by a stone. Both the injured BDO and trader were rushed to Kamalpur BSM Hospital by fire service personnel.

Sources said several protesters were also injured after being struck by arrows and sharp objects during the clash.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Kamalpur Fire Station, the situation remains tense.
