Tripura, 15 Oct 2025: In Khowai, along the Indo-Bangladesh border, incidents of theft have reportedly been on the rise due to frequent illegal intrusions by Bangladeshi thieves, allegedly with the help of local Indian brokers. According to police sources, on Tuesday night, a group of suspected Bangladeshi thieves crossed into India through the Vidyabil area with the intent to steal cattle.
Early Wednesday morning, while attempting to return to Bangladesh with the stolen cows through a rubber plantation, three of the thieves were confronted by local rubber workers — Dhirendra Telenga and Mithun Telenga — who suspected their activities. When the workers tried to stop them, the thieves allegedly attacked the two with machetes, leaving them seriously injured.
As news of the attack spread, local residents rushed to the scene. Enraged by the incident, the mob caught hold of the three Bangladeshi suspects and beat them to death on the spot.
Police, including the Additional Superintendent of Police and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer D. Khudia Rasu, reached the location soon after. A Bangladeshi SIM card and a mobile phone were recovered from the deceased. Forensic experts were called in for a preliminary investigation, and inquest proceedings were conducted at the scene.
