Tripura, Oct 2: In a major breakthrough against illegal narcotics smuggling, a joint operation by Sepahijala District Police, NCB, STF, and BSF led to the seizure of 4,131 bottles of contraband cough syrup (Phensedyl and Eskuf) from the Sonamura police station area.
Acting on a tip-off, security forces cordoned off the Aralia Gram Panchayat area in the early hours of the morning and launched a massive raid. The operation was spearheaded by Additional SP Rajib Sutradhar, with the presence of STF District SP Kallol Roy, Additional SP Souvik Deb, Sonamura SDPO Shashimohan Debbarma, and OC Tapas Das, among others.
During the search, a Hyundai Eon car (registration number TR03E0798) was found abandoned near a roadside open field, packed with the narcotics. Officials revealed that the car had been concealed in the area with the consignment carefully loaded inside. Following a detailed search, the huge cache of bottles was recovered.
Sources said that based on the car’s registration number and a parcel found inside, NCB officials have been able to make preliminary identification of the suspected traffickers. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a market value of nearly ₹20 lakh.
