Tripura,1 Oct 2025: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha paid rich tributes to the legendary music maestro Sachin Dev Burman on his birth anniversary, describing him as a timeless figure who earned global recognition through his unparalleled dedication to music. The Chief Minister inaugurated the commemorative programme organised at the lobby of Rabindra Centenary Hall on Tuesday, under the initiative of the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha said that music knows no boundaries and serves as nourishment for the human soul. “Through the melodies composed by Sachin Dev Burman, we discover ourselves. Songs also play an invaluable role in relieving mental stress,” he remarked.

Highlighting the maestro’s extraordinary contribution, the Chief Minister mentioned that between 1933 and 1975, Sachin Dev Burman composed music for 8 Bengali films and 89 Hindi films, which remain equally popular even today. He also recorded nearly 200 songs in both Bengali and Hindi. By blending classical and folk traditions, Burman created unique musical masterpieces. For his immense contribution, he was conferred the Padma Shri by the Government of India, along with two Filmfare Awards and many other honours.
Dr. Saha emphasized that music influences all aspects of social life and even played a pivotal role in motivating people during India’s freedom struggle. “Sachin Dev Burman’s creations built true cultural harmony among different communities,” he said. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, noting that the state government is working in the same direction. Encouraging the youth, the Chief Minister stressed that Tripura’s children have talent in sports, music, and many other fields, and urged upcoming artists to take inspiration from Sachin Dev Burman’s works to create their own legacies.
Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information & Cultural Affairs Department, said Sachin Dev Burman was not only a composer but also a singer and music director whose creations continue to touch hearts. He added that the department celebrates his birth anniversary across the state every year.
The event was also addressed by Subrata Chakraborty, Vice Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee, and attended by Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Director of Information & Cultural Affairs. The programme began with floral tributes to the bust of Sachin Dev Burman at Rabindra Bhavan premises, offered by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries. Artists from Sachin Deb Burman Memorial Government Music College, along with performers from various cultural organizations of the state, presented a colourful cultural programme to mark the occasion.
