94,723 Women from Self-Help Groups Become ‘Lakhpati Didis’: Social Welfare Minister
Tripura, 2 April 2025: The Tripura government has implemented the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Women to strengthen women’s empowerment. During a discussion on a private resolution in the Legislative Assembly on 01 April, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the various initiatives taken for women’s self-reliance.
The private resolution, proposed by MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, urged the state government to take more effective measures to make women economically self-sufficient. While introducing the resolution, he expressed gratitude to the government for its various schemes supporting women’s empowerment. During the discussion, the social welfare minister stated that the state government has reserved 33% of government jobs for women. Additionally, 50% of stalls in government markets and shopping complexes are allocated for women, encouraging them to engage in business activities.
A total of 1,77,987 women and girls across the state have been covered under the Social Security Pension Scheme. To enhance skills and employment opportunities, 45 selected women and girls have received driving training under the Social Welfare and Social Education Department. The Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Upahar scheme has benefited 21,551 women, while 1,42,759 women have received assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
The minister further stated that the state currently has 20,118 Anganwadi workers and helpers, and 2,199 people have been recruited into Anganwadi services in the last two financial years. Under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, 5,895 self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed, receiving ₹98.72 crore in loans.
The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission has established 52,902 SHGs, connecting 4,75,582 rural women, and has provided them with ₹740.43 crore in financial assistance. Additionally, ₹1,539 crore in bank loans has been sanctioned. As of February 2025, 94,723 women have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’,
