Agartala, November 16:<\/strong> \u201cJournalists are performing their professional duties while facing numerous challenges,\u201d said Tinku Roy, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, during the National Press Day celebration in Agartala. Speaking at the event held at Rabindra Centenary Hall, the minister emphasized the need for accuracy and truthfulness in news reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Agartala Press Club, highlighted the importance of ethical journalism in a rapidly evolving digital era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Roy stated that the Tripura government has undertaken several measures to support journalists, including a revised pension scheme providing \u20b910,000 per month, health insurance, and a significant increase in advertising allocations for media houses. Additionally, infrastructural upgrades such as air-conditioning and the installation of an elevator at Agartala Press Club were announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMedia plays a crucial role in bringing news to the people, and its credibility lies in delivering unbiased and fact-based reporting. The media must adapt to the changing dynamics of the digital age,\u201d said the minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Arindam Lodh Urges Responsible Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Arindam Lodh of the Tripura High Court, who graced the event as a guest of honor, underscored the media\u2019s responsibility to accurately reflect public opinion. He warned against disseminating misleading information, emphasizing the need for caution in reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media: A Pillar of Democracy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, referred to the press as one of the four pillars of democracy. He highlighted its vital role in shaping public opinion and driving social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Chakraborty noted that National Press Day has been observed every year on November 16 since the establishment of the Press Council of India in 1966. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cThe Changing Nature of Press,\u201d reflects the rapid transformation of the media industry in the digital era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veteran Journalists Honored<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the celebrations, four veteran journalists from Tripura were honored for their contributions to the field. Among them, Chitra Roy, Supriya Dutta, and Mohit Pal shared their professional experiences at the event, while Biman Dhar was recognized in absentia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veteran journalist Shekhar Dutta, the keynote speaker, remarked on how technological advancements have reshaped the media landscape, making news delivery faster and more accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jayanta Bhattacharya, President of Agartala Press Club, echoed this sentiment, stating, \u201cThe media has expanded significantly with the advent of digital platforms, transforming the way news is disseminated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
