Agartala 25 Oct, 2024<\/strong>: Traditional artisans in our country represent a significant portion of the Indian workforce, and workers in the unorganized sector play a crucial role in the country\u2019s economic development, stated Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha<\/strong> today at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, after inaugurating the exhibition-cum-trade fair under the PM-Viswakarma scheme<\/strong>. Union Minister of MSME, Jitan Ram Manjhi<\/strong>, attended the program as a special guest. This exhibition-cum-trade fair will continue until October 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM-Viswakarma scheme to support the overall development of traditional artisans and technicians. Artisans from 18 trades, including carpenters, masons, barbers, washers, tailors, and puppet and toy makers, are included in this scheme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme provides skill development training, soft loans, modern equipment, and incentives for digital transactions to beneficiaries. The chief minister added that the rural economy of the state has advanced considerably, with a significant increase in the number of self-help groups <\/strong>(SHGs). These SHGs receive support under various central and state schemes, including bank loans. He expressed hope that the state\u2019s conventional workforce would benefit from the PM-Viswakarma scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi<\/strong>, in his speech, noted that the PM-Viswakarma <\/strong>scheme aims to create earning opportunities for the poor and expand livelihood options through MSME ventures, in line with Prime Minister Modi\u2019s vision for self-reliant and developed India, or Vikshit Bharat<\/em><\/strong>. Under this scheme, Tripura has made notable progress, and Manjhi expressed optimism that it would raise the standard of living for the traditional workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
