In a significant step towards empowering women and promoting girl child welfare, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao<\/em><\/strong> program was launched in Gomati district today, with a grand event held at Rajarshi Hall, Udaipur. The initiative, organized by the Gomati District Administration, the Chief Medical Officer, and the District Social Welfare and Education Office, seeks to further enhance the welfare and education of girls in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the event, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singhha Roy<\/strong> emphasized the importance of empowering women for the overall development of society. He remarked that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several programs have been launched to uplift women across India. \u201cThe government is giving high priority to making women self-reliant in the state. What once used to be a slogan has now transformed into a movement,\u201d he said, referring to the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao<\/em><\/strong> initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Finance Minister highlighted the changing social attitudes towards girls, noting how daughters were once considered a burden, often neglected, and subjected to female foeticide. Today, however, the narrative has shifted towards celebrating and investing in the future of girls. \u201cNow, women are excelling in every field. With the government\u2019s support, the literacy rate among girls has increased significantly,\u201d he added. He further mentioned various state government schemes like free bicycles for girls attending school, fee waivers for girls enrolling in college, and reservation in jobs for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roy also spoke about the Chief Minister\u2019s Youth Connectivity Scheme, which provides financial assistance to college girls to purchase mobile phones. He applauded the success of women\u2019s self-help groups (SHGs) in the state, noting that nearly 500,000 women are currently part of these groups, with over 83,000 women becoming \u201cLakhpati Didis\u201d (women earning over a lakh annually) through SHG initiatives. The state is working to ensure that 100,000 women join this rank in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local MLA Abhishek Debroy<\/strong> also addressed the gathering, underscoring the government\u2019s commitment to women\u2019s empowerment through various programs. He encouraged families to take care of their daughters, stressing the importance of nurturing girls rather than neglecting them. He also acknowledged the success of initiatives aimed at reducing anaemia and improving overall health outcomes for women, resulting in lower mortality rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Sheetal Chandra Majumdar<\/strong> added that girls are no longer lagging behind in any field. He urged society to continue supporting their growth towards self-reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Gomati District\u2019s Additional District Magistrate (P.P.), Binoy Bhusan Das, and representatives from various departments. District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma <\/strong>delivered the welcome address, while Gomati Zilla Parishad Chairperson Debal Debroy presided over the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highlight of the program was the felicitation of 200 girls and women who have made notable contributions in fields such as education, sports, and culture.
