Agartala, Nov 5:<\/strong> Police have seized 875 bottles of banned Eskuf cough syrup, estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh in the black market, and arrested two persons during a late-night operation in Tripura’s Nabagram Chowmuhani area, officials said on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seizure was made by a team from the Airport Police Station following specific intelligence inputs about the alleged illegal storage and distribution of pharmaceutical products, they said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting on the information, a police team conducted raids at the residences of two persons, identified as Shubhankar Saha and Dipankar Saha, in the Airport Police Station area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During searches at the premises, officers recovered 875 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup, allegedly kept for illegal distribution, police sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The estimated black-market value of the seized consignment is around Rs 10 lakh, making it a significant seizure in the area, they added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both suspects were arrested following the recovery and brought to the police station for questioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A case has been registered against them under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal proceedings have been initiated, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the source of the seized consignment and identify other individuals allegedly involved in the illegal trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators are also examining whether the recovered cough syrup was part of a larger pharmaceutical trafficking network operating across state borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrested persons are being questioned to gather information about the procurement, transportation and intended distribution of the consignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police are also trying to establish whether the seized stock was meant for diversion into the illegal market, where certain pharmaceutical preparations are misused for non-medical and recreational purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation is part of the ongoing drive by Tripura Police to curb narcotics-related activities and prevent the diversion of pharmaceutical products for illicit consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said surveillance and enforcement measures have been intensified to identify and dismantle networks involved in the illegal storage and distribution of such substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
