Agartala, Nov 5<\/strong>: The Tripura government has entered into a strategic partnership with IIT Kharagpur to modernise higher education, strengthen research infrastructure and equip students with industry-relevant skills in emerging technology sectors, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between the state’s Higher Education Department and IIT Kharagpur during a visit by a delegation led by Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman to the institute on October 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation comprised Higher Education Secretary Vikash Singh, Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma and other senior officials. IIT Kharagpur was represented by its Director Prof Suman Chakraborty, senior professors, deans and industry partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed collaboration, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to promote academic excellence, innovation-driven learning, research activities and skill-based education while enhancing students’ employability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major component of the partnership is the proposed establishment of a Centre for Advanced Learning, Research and Innovation in Tripura under the academic guidance and technical mentorship of IIT Kharagpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre will focus on emerging disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Drone Technology and Geospatial Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative is expected to provide students with exposure to advanced technologies and create opportunities for research and practical learning in areas witnessing rapid global growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration will also extend academic and technical support to Tripura Technical University in curriculum development, faculty training, laboratory expansion, research infrastructure, academic governance and accreditation-related activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strengthening vocational and skill-based education in government degree colleges is another key focus area. The two institutions are exploring the introduction of industry-oriented courses, practical training modules, internships and employment-linked programmes to improve students’ workplace readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement also envisages capacity-building programmes for teachers through faculty mentoring and a Train-the-Trainer model, enabling educators in Tripura to benefit from the academic expertise of IIT Kharagpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the partnership would help bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements while strengthening the state’s research and innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative is expected to improve the quality of higher and technical education and prepare Tripura’s youth for emerging opportunities in science, technology and industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
