Tripura, 04 Nov 2026<\/strong>: At a time when residents of 47 Mile and surrounding areas have been looking forward to improved drinking water facilities under the government’s New Water Supply Scheme, the alleged theft of an installed transformer has raised serious concerns among local residents.

The water supply project was initiated to address the drinking water needs of people in the area. However, the alleged theft of the transformer by miscreants has reportedly disrupted the process of providing the intended benefits to the local community.

The incident has drawn attention to the need to protect public infrastructure and government-funded development projects. According to information received, there are also allegations that some stolen materials may have been used for making household kitchen utensils. However, this claim is yet to be independently verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expressing deep concern over the incident, social worker Billow Jamatia has made a humble appeal to the residents of 47 Mile and neighbouring areas to protect public property and cooperate with the authorities in identifying those responsible.

In his appeal, Jamatia stated that the water supply scheme was developed for the benefit of ordinary people, their families and future generations, not for any particular individual or group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged residents to remain vigilant against theft and vandalism and to develop a sense of collective responsibility towards public development projects.

“Development is not the responsibility of the Government alone; protecting development is the responsibility of every citizen,” he said in his appeal.
