It is their responsibility to remain accessible to citizens, understand their concerns and work sincerely for the welfare and development of their constituencies, he said.

Accountability must remain at the centre of public life, irrespective of whether representatives are elected to local bodies, state assemblies or Parliament, the chief minister said.

He observed that making promises during election campaigns was easy, but translating those commitments into concrete development work was the real measure of leadership.

Saha urged public representatives to introspect and assess what answers they would have for voters if they failed to contribute meaningfully to the development of their respective areas.

Public confidence, he said, could be sustained only through visible results, regular interaction with citizens and a genuine commitment to addressing their concerns.

Emphasising the need for development-oriented governance, the chief minister said progress should not remain confined to government documents and official records but must bring meaningful improvements to people’s everyday lives.

He called for sustained attention to essential services, including roads, drinking water, electricity and sanitation. Elected representatives should regularly engage with residents, listen to their grievances and ensure timely action to resolve local problems, he added.

Referring to the legacy of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Saha said his ideals highlighted the importance of patriotism, social responsibility and dedication to public service.

He said community facilities should not be viewed merely as physical infrastructure but should also function as centres for social interaction, cultural activities and collective development.

The chief minister said the state government’s development agenda, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, seeks to ensure that the benefits of growth reach all sections of society. Coordination among elected representatives, government departments and citizens is essential to achieving this goal, he added.

The newly inaugurated community hall is expected to provide residents of Vaishnabtila and neighbouring areas with a venue for social, cultural and community programmes.

Agartala, Oct 23: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said elected representatives must remain accountable to the people and win their trust through tangible development initiatives, stressing that public service should go beyond promises made during election campaigns.
