Agartala, October 10, 2026: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated the beautification project of the Ranjitnagar water body under Ward No. 14 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), completed at an estimated cost of ₹1.49 crore.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said the state government was taking initiatives to strengthen connectivity, education, sports, agriculture and other sectors while improving infrastructure and implementing reforms for the welfare of the people. He also stated that special initiatives were being taken to introduce the Vande Bharat Express service from Agartala.

Saha said the government was working to revive traditional culture while reclaiming and beautifying water bodies across the AMC area. According to him, proper planning and effective implementation are essential for the development of any locality, society and its people. The beautification of water bodies, he added, was helping create a cleaner and healthier urban environment while establishing sustainable systems for water conservation.

Highlighting the government’s efforts towards women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister said women were being encouraged to join self-help groups and participate in skill development programmes to become economically self-reliant. The government was also supporting young people in establishing start-ups using locally available raw materials to create alternative livelihood opportunities. He stated that around 2.5 lakh entrepreneurs had established their own businesses in the state.

The Chief Minister further said Tripura’s economic progress was reflected in its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), which, according to him, ranked second in the Northeast. He added that the government was undertaking several urban development initiatives to improve Agartala’s infrastructure and address traffic congestion.

A multi-level car parking facility has already been constructed at the Old Motorstand to ease parking-related problems in the city. The government is also planning to construct another flyover and a ring road to improve traffic management, he said.

Referring to the country’s development since 2014, Saha stressed the importance of maintaining political stability, peace and harmony to ensure continued progress. He said a peaceful environment was essential for sustaining development in Tripura.

Speaking as a special guest, AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said the beautification of the Ranjitnagar water body had fulfilled a long-standing demand of local residents. He added that the corporation was working to address the needs of people across Agartala.

AMC Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta and Central Zone Chairman Ratna Datta attended the programme as guests of honour. AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed A delivered the welcome address, while Ward No. 14 Corporator Snigdha Das Dey delivered the vote of thanks.

A memento was presented to the Chief Minister on behalf of Sanjog Club and local residents. A documentary highlighting the beautification project was also screened during the programme.
