The festival organized jointly by the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation, Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Sepahijala Zila Parishad, Melaghar Municipal Council, Rudrasagar Udvastu Matsyajibi Samabay Samiti and Sepahijala district administration, will continue until October 9. Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp.<br><br>Addressing the gathering there the Governor deliberated on the historical background of Neermahal. He stressed on the need to present Neermahal before the domestic and foreign tourists in a better way to attract them to this heritage spot and advised the state government to take necessary measures for that. He said, the government has to take initiative to improve the socio-economic status of the fishermen families living around Rudrasagar Lake.\u00a0 At the same time he emphasized developing better accommodation facilities for the tourists near the Neermahal tourist spot. This will create income generating opportunities for the local people.<br><br>Presiding over the event Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman said Neermahal Jal Utsav is an integral part of our culture. Neermahal is not just a palace, it is part of our life and identity. Because, the lives of fishermen families centres around this lake. The folk culture of this basin has developed on this life environment only. Bhatiali song, folk song, folk dance, folk culture all are part of this riverine life style.<br><br>Among others speakers were guest of honour MLA Bindu Debnath. Welcome address was delivered by the secretary of tourism department Uttam Kumar Chakma. Vote of thanks was given by the secretary of Rudrasagar Udvastu Matsyajibi Samabay Samiti Parameswar Das.\u00a0 Other guests included Saha Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala Zila Parishad Pintu Aich, DM of Sepahijala Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Vice Chairperson of Melaghar Municipal Council Gurupada Roy, Vice Chairman of Mohanbhog Panchayat Samiti Jitendra Das, and so on.\u00a0 Local artistes of Melaghar presented a cultural programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tripura, 08 Oct 2026: Three-day Neermahal Jal Utsav (Water Festival) has begun today at Rajghat, Melaghar.
