Agartala, October 7:<\/strong> The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to waive electricity bills for eligible Durga Puja clubs and committees having power connections of up to five kilowatts within its jurisdiction, officials said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the AMC office to review preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations in the state capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The waiver is expected to provide financial relief to Puja organisers, who incur considerable expenses on lighting, decorations, cultural programmes and other arrangements during the festival, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath attended the meeting along with AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, councillors and senior civic officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nath said the government was committed to ensuring that Durga Puja was celebrated in a safe, peaceful and festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He stressed the need for close coordination among various government departments, civic authorities, police and Puja committees to ensure smooth celebrations and adequate public facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The meeting reviewed several civic and infrastructure-related issues ahead of the festival, including road repairs and maintenance. Officials were directed to complete pending works before the main days of Puja to minimise inconvenience to residents and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Street lighting and electricity supply at Puja venues were also discussed, with emphasis on ensuring adequate lighting and uninterrupted power during the festivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Officials further reviewed drainage and sanitation arrangements in different parts of Agartala, particularly in areas likely to witness large gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Measures for crowd management, traffic regulation and emergency response were also discussed.
