{"id":26829,"date":"2026-10-01T12:53:18","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T12:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=26829"},"modified":"2026-10-01T12:53:19","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T12:53:19","slug":"tripura-congress-holds-sit-in-against-cec-alleges-electoral-irregularities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/10\/01\/tripura-congress-holds-sit-in-against-cec-alleges-electoral-irregularities\/","title":{"rendered":"Tripura Congress holds sit-in against CEC, alleges electoral irregularities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Agartala, October 1:<\/strong> The Tripura Pradesh Congress Seva Dal on Thursday organised a mass demonstration in Agartala seeking the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and calling for an independent examination of alleged irregularities in the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protest brought together Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, MLAs Sudip Roy Barman and Gopal Chandra Roy, and a large number of party workers and supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Congress alleged that democratic rights and the credibility of electoral institutions had been undermined in the state and demanded greater accountability in the functioning of the Election Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the gathering, Saha alleged that voters had faced intimidation and obstruction during elections in Tripura since 2018. He accused ruling party workers of preventing some voters from reaching polling stations and alleged that incidents of violence, booth capturing and fraudulent voting had occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saha claimed that complaints of this nature had emerged during several elections, including panchayat, Autonomous District Council and Lok Sabha polls. The allegations were made by the Congress as part of its criticism of the conduct of elections in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Congress leader also targeted Chief Minister Manik Saha, alleging that he had defended the Election Commission instead of responding to concerns raised by opposition parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another major issue raised at the protest was the electoral roll. Congress leaders alleged that names of eligible voters had been deleted while names of ineligible persons were included in voter lists. They sought an independent inquiry into such complaints and demanded greater transparency in the process of preparing and revising electoral rolls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party also questioned the legal safeguards available to election officials, saying constitutional institutions should be subject to appropriate accountability mechanisms when allegations of wrongdoing are raised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protesters also raised issues related to unemployment, law and order, salary-related grievances of government employees and alleged corruption in various government departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congress leaders alleged that unemployed youths protesting over their demands had faced police action and claimed that programmes organised by opposition parties were obstructed through administrative measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Seva Dal protest forms part of the Congress&#8217; broader campaign against the Election Commission in Tripura.
