Agartala, September 29:<\/strong> Senior leaders of the BJP and CPI(M) in Tripura on Tuesday visited hospitals to meet party workers and candidates injured in incidents of violence during the Village Committee elections, as rival political parties put forward different accounts of the clashes and demanded investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tripura BJP president and MLA Abhishek Debroy visited GBP Hospital in Agartala and met injured party workers receiving treatment. He interacted with the injured and their family members and assured them of necessary assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Debroy termed the incident \u201cdeeply shocking\u201d and called for an impartial probe into the violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the BJP had directed its workers to ensure peaceful polling and claimed that the election process had remained peaceful in most parts of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis was a sudden attack, a conspiracy. The police are investigating, and the truth will come out,\u201d Debroy told reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The BJP state president said one of the injured youths belonged to his constituency and expressed concern over the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe is a good boy, my own constituency\u2019s son. I was so distressed last night that I couldn\u2019t sleep,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Debroy also assured the youth\u2019s family that he would extend all possible assistance as their elected representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury visited Gomati District Hospital, where he met an injured Tipra Motha candidate and other workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chaudhury alleged that 10\u201312 vehicles carrying people from outside the area had reached the Surma polling centre and claimed that their presence was aimed at influencing the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Chaudhury, local residents resisted the move, following which violence broke out. He claimed that a candidate was shot and two other persons were injured in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CPI(M) leader also referred to videos circulating on social media, alleging that they showed BJP supporters attempting to enter polling areas and cast fraudulent votes. He sought a detailed investigation into the allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chaudhury further alleged that tension erupted near a strong room when supporters of different parties tried to monitor the movement of ballot boxes. Police personnel were allegedly attacked while attempting to intervene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He, however, said the participation of voters despite the incidents reflected their determination to exercise their franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe enthusiasm among people to cast their votes, even after such incidents, shows their strong commitment to democracy,\u201d Chaudhury said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The incidents have brought renewed attention to security arrangements for the TTAADC Village Committee elections, which were held after nearly a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The BJP, CPI(M), Congress, Tipra Motha and other parties are in the electoral contest.
