Agartala, September 28:<\/strong> The CPI(M) on Monday alleged irregularities during polling for the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), claiming that polling agents of opposition candidates were obstructed at some booths and that reports of bogus voting had emerged from several areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Former TTAADC Chief Executive Member and senior CPI(M) leader Radhacharan Debbarma alleged that polling agents representing opposition candidates were prevented from entering polling stations in parts of West Tripura district, including Jirania and Mandai, besides some areas of Sepahijala district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Debbarma also claimed that opposition candidates had faced difficulties during the nomination process and were allegedly denied the opportunity to file their papers in certain constituencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He further alleged instances of \u201cchappa\u201d or bogus voting at some polling stations, saying reports of such malpractice had surfaced during the early hours of voting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CPI(M) leader, however, said polling in several other areas was proceeding without major disruption by around 10.30 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The allegations could not be independently verified immediately. No official confirmation regarding the specific incidents cited by the CPI(M) was available at the time of reporting. A report published during polling also said the allegations had not been independently verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Polling for the long-pending Village Committee elections began on Monday across the TTAADC areas, with voting being conducted through ballot papers. Elections are being held for 587 Village Committees covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats<\/strong>. The electorate comprises 9,61,977 voters<\/strong>, according to the election schedule announced by the State Election Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The election covers tribal-majority areas spread across 52 blocks of the state and is being held after a prolonged gap.
