Agartala, September 25, 2026<\/strong>: A large quantity of suspected ganja was seized from a Maruti car during an early-morning police operation in Agartala after the driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot.

According to police, the incident took place during the early hours when the night mobile officer, Sub-Inspector Manish Pal, was conducting vehicle checking in the Colonel Chowmuhani area.

During the checking operation, police signalled a Maruti car bearing registration number TR01 BV 0370<\/strong> to stop. However, the driver allegedly failed to stop and instead turned towards a nearby lane. Police pursued the vehicle, following which the driver abandoned the car and fled.

As the vehicle appeared suspicious, police cordoned it off and secured the area. Later in the morning, an Executive Magistrate and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were called to the spot.

In the presence of independent witnesses, the vehicle was opened and searched. Police said they recovered a large quantity of suspected ganja in packets as well as sacks. After weighing the seized material, the total quantity was found to be 192 kg, packed in 96 packets, according to the police statement.

The vehicle bearing registration number TR01 BV 0370 and the suspected contraband were subsequently seized.

Police said an NDPS case would be registered against the vehicle owner and the driver. Investigators will now attempt to establish where the consignment originated and where it was intended to be transported.

According to the police officer, the estimated value of the seized material is around \u20b996 lakh, based on an estimated rate of \u20b950,000 per kg.

The abandoned vehicle was recovered from a lane connecting Haradhan Sangha towards Lake Chowmuhani, in the ST Corporation area.

Police said it is currently difficult to determine the route through which the suspected contraband entered the area as the driver managed to escape. Investigators are expected to trace and apprehend the driver and question him to determine the source and intended destination of the consignment.
