Tripura, 23 Sep 2026:<\/strong> A seven-day archery training camp was organised by the Tripura Archery Association at Bhagat Singh Yuba Abas in Agartala, with the aim of encouraging young athletes and preparing them for competitions at the national and international levels.

Archers from different districts of Tripura participated in the training programme. According to the organisers, this is the first such seven-day training camp being organised by the association since its formation. Coaches from within and outside the state were also involved in the programme.

The event was attended by Councillor Latanath, Tripura Archery Association President Samir Ranjan Ghosh, Sports Director M. Mag, Padma Shri awardee and internationally acclaimed gymnast Dipa Karmakar, North Zone Chairperson of Agartala Municipal Corporation Pradip Chandra, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, Samir Ranjan Ghosh said the association\u2019s primary objective is to attract more children and talented youngsters towards archery and provide them with proper training so that they can progress from the state level to national and international competitions.

He said Tripura has considerable sporting talent, particularly among communities including tea workers and indigenous populations, where there is significant interest in archery. Since archery is an Olympic sport, the association hopes that systematic training will help young athletes from the state compete at higher levels.

Ghosh also acknowledged the support extended to the sporting community by the Tripura government, including the Chief Minister and Sports Minister, and expressed hope that the state\u2019s archers would bring greater recognition to Tripura in the future.

Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar congratulated the Tripura Archery Association for organising the training camp and highlighted the importance of archery as an Olympic sport.

\u201cArchery is an Olympic sport, and Indian archery has given us many medals over the years. We have seen athletes such as Sheetal Devi, Dola Banerjee and Rahul Banerjee make their mark,\u201d Karmakar said.

She expressed hope that the coaches and young participants would make the most of the seven-day programme and that Tripura\u2019s archers would eventually win medals at national and international competitions.

Karmakar also urged parents to encourage children to participate in sports instead of remaining confined to mobile phones and screens. She said sports can provide young people with opportunities to establish themselves while bringing pride to their state and country.

Referring to India\u2019s sporting ambitions and the proposed 2036 Olympic Games, Karmakar said greater encouragement should be given to sports in which India has comparatively less participation, so that more young athletes can come forward and compete.

She also referred to recent achievements by Indian athletes, including Northeast-born weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, and expressed hope that Indian sport would continue to progress.

The seven-day camp is expected to provide young archers with valuable technical exposure and practical training. Organisers expressed hope that the initiative will help identify and nurture promising archery talent from Tripura and pave the way for their participation in national and international competitions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
