Agartala, September 22:<\/strong> Advance polling for officials and security personnel assigned to the ADC Village Committee elections was conducted at Mandai RD Block on Monday, ahead of the September 28 vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The special voting exercise, held between 10 am and 4 pm, saw election-duty personnel cast their ballots. Another round of advance voting will be conducted on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Mandai Block BDO and Returning Officer said 53 ballots were kept for personnel deployed for election-related duties. Of these, 40 were earmarked for police and TSR personnel, while the remaining 13 were for polling officials and other election staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The exercise proceeded without any untoward incident, with around 20 voters reportedly waiting at the polling centre around noon. Officials said adequate arrangements had been made to facilitate the voting process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The polling station was exclusively managed by women officials and staff, making it a women-operated voting centre. Authorities said the arrangement functioned smoothly throughout the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, 330 valid nominations remain in Mandai after two of the 332 nomination papers filed were rejected during scrutiny. The Returning Officer said 141 candidates have already secured election unopposed, while 125 candidates are continuing in the contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mandai will go to the polls on September 28, with voting scheduled at 27 polling stations for 57 seats. The candidates include eight from the BJP, 40 from the CPI(M), 55 from Tipra Motha, one from the IPFT and 21 independents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Returning Officer said preparations for Tuesday’s advance voting and the September 28 polling have been completed.
