The case was registered under Case No. 17\/2025 and SNM\/NDPS 49\/2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The court imposed the following sentences:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Passport Act:<\/strong> Two years\u2019 imprisonment and a fine of \u20b95,000. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional month of imprisonment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act:<\/strong> Seven years\u2019 rigorous imprisonment and a fine of \u20b925,000. Failure to pay would result in an additional three months of imprisonment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act:<\/strong> Twelve years\u2019 rigorous imprisonment and a fine of \u20b91 lakh. Failure to pay would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Providing details of the case, Special Public Prosecutor Gautam Giri stated that the incident occurred on <strong>March 4, 2025<\/strong>, when two BSF constables from the 81st Battalion\u2019s Kulubari Border Outpost detained Mujahid Mia during a border patrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the prosecution, the accused was identified as a resident of Bangaon in Bangladesh\u2019s Habiganj district. Following information provided to Assistant Commandant Sunil Bora and Sonamura Police Station Inspector Shubhankar Debbarma, a search was conducted, resulting in the alleged recovery of <strong>25 bottles of Phensedyl, 12 kilograms of dried ganja and \u20b928,500 in Bangladeshi currency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accused and the seized items were subsequently handed over to Sonamura Police Station. Assistant Commandant Sunil Bora filed a complaint with the Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sub-Inspector Jagabandhu Debnath was appointed as the investigating officer and submitted the chargesheet on August 29, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a detailed trial involving the examination of 22 witnesses, the court convicted the accused and pronounced the sentences under the relevant provisions of the Passport Act and NDPS Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The case highlights the legal proceedings against alleged cross-border narcotics trafficking in Tripura.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tripura, 19 Sep 2026: The Sipahijala District and Sessions Court has convicted a Bangladeshi national in a narcotics case involving illegal entry into India and drug trafficking, sentencing him to up to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment.
