{"id":26316,"date":"2026-09-16T14:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-16T14:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=26316"},"modified":"2026-09-16T18:02:03","modified_gmt":"2026-09-16T18:02:03","slug":"airline-proposals-key-to-kailashahar-airport-revival-mbb-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/09\/16\/airline-proposals-key-to-kailashahar-airport-revival-mbb-director\/","title":{"rendered":"Airline Proposals Key to Kailashahar Airport Revival: MBB Director"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Agartala, September 16:<\/strong> The fate of flight operations at Kailashahar Airport will depend on concrete proposals from airlines, Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport Director Krishnan Mohan Nehra said on Wednesday, indicating that the proposed development of the airport would be undertaken based on operational requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nehra said one or two airlines are preparing written proposals to launch services from Kailashahar. Once an airline confirms its intention to operate from the airport, authorities will initiate the necessary development work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf an airline gives its consent, we will make that airport operational,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The airport would need additional land and infrastructure before it can support larger aircraft and operate reliably during adverse weather. Nehra said 205 acres of additional land has been sought from the State Government for the proposed expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the existing facility could potentially accommodate smaller aircraft in favourable weather under Visual Flight Rules. However, poor visibility would create operational challenges, making an Instrument Landing System necessary for all-weather operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An ILS provides aircraft with guidance during approach, including runway alignment and directional and distance information, Nehra explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs soon as the land is provided, we will develop it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MBB Airport director also spoke about the recent changes in flight frequencies from Agartala, saying such decisions are largely taken by airlines based on commercial and operational considerations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He cited aircraft availability and maintenance as factors that can affect schedules. Hyderabad flights, which previously operated five days a week, are now running three days a week, while changes have also been made to Delhi services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nehra said he had written to airline CEOs urging them to continue operating flights from Agartala, stressing that passenger demand remains strong. The State Government has also approached the Union Civil Aviation Ministry over the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passenger traffic is generally lower during July-September, he said, with a significant rise expected during the festival period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MBB Airport currently handles approximately 14 arrivals and 14 departures every day, with daily passenger movement ranging from 4,000 to 4,500. During peak periods, the figure rises to nearly 6,000 passengers, while occupancy levels can reach 95-99 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The airport recorded around 1.5 million passengers in the 2025-26 financial year and ranked sixth across the country in the Customer Satisfaction Survey, according to Nehra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further announced two campaigns aimed at improving passenger services. <strong>\u2018Swachhta Hi Seva\u2019<\/strong> will run from September 17 to October 2, followed by <strong>\u2018Yatri Sewa Abhiyan 2026\u2019<\/strong>, which will continue until October 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programmes will focus on airport cleanliness, passenger information, baggage handling, drinking water, digital services and accessibility for senior citizens and Divyangjan.
