Tripura, 12 Sep 2026:<\/strong> The Indigenous People\u2019s Front of Tripura (IPFT) today condemned the alleged attack on its General Secretary Swapan Debbarma at Hezamara Block under Mohanpur Sub-division and sought action against those responsible.

Speaking to reporters after a state-level committee meeting at Agartala Press Club, Cooperation Minister and IPFT leader Sukla Charan Noatia said the party had lodged complaints with the State Election Commission, police administration, Acting DGP and West Tripura Superintendent of Police, besides filing an FIR at Mohanpur Police Station.

\u201cIt is very unfortunate in the history of the Village Committee election that our party General Secretary Swapan Debbarma was attacked. We condemn the incident,\u201d Noatia said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the party was awaiting action by the police administration against the alleged perpetrators.

Regarding the meeting, Noatia said the state committee discussed the party\u2019s strategy for the upcoming Village Committee elections and expressed hope of winning all seats where IPFT candidates have been fielded.

According to Noatia, the party has 359 candidates in the VC elections. He claimed that although the party initially planned to contest a majority of seats, alleged attempts to prevent IPFT from fielding candidates in several blocks resulted in the party contesting fewer seats.

He said the party would raise the issue among the people through democratic means, stressing that all political parties should be allowed to contest elections equally without the use of force.

The meeting was presided over by IPFT president Prem Kumar Reang. Vice-presidents K.K. Jamatia, Sindhu Chandra Jamatia and Prashanta Debbarma, IWFT president Jashuda Rani Jamatia and YIPFT leader Maino Singh Jamatia were among those present.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
