{"id":26169,"date":"2026-09-10T13:45:35","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T13:45:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=26169"},"modified":"2026-09-10T13:45:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T13:45:36","slug":"tripura-unveils-green-energy-plan-as-power-demand-seen-doubling-by-2035","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/09\/10\/tripura-unveils-green-energy-plan-as-power-demand-seen-doubling-by-2035\/","title":{"rendered":"Tripura Unveils Green Energy Plan as Power Demand Seen Doubling by 2035"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Agartala, September 10:<\/strong> Tripura has begun preparations for a sharp rise in electricity consumption over the next decade, unveiling a clean-energy strategy that combines renewable generation, energy storage, smart-grid infrastructure and green-skills training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state\u2019s electricity demand, currently estimated at <strong>380 MW<\/strong>, is projected to reach <strong>520 MW by 2030 and 800 MW by 2035<\/strong>, according to TSECL Managing Director <strong>Biswajit Basu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projections came as the state government launched the <strong>Tripura Clean Energy Roadmap 2035<\/strong>, <strong>Green Skilling Programme \u2018Unnayan\u2019<\/strong> and <strong>TREAT (Transforming Renewable Energy Acceleration in Tripura)<\/strong> at an event in Agartala on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power Minister <strong>Ratan Lal Nath<\/strong> said the expansion of the power sector would be closely linked to Tripura\u2019s overall development, pointing to the requirements of industries, hospitals and educational institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the government intends to train more than <strong>1,000 people<\/strong> under the Unnayan programme to meet the manpower requirements of the emerging green-energy sector. ITI graduates, Class XII pass-outs, self-help group members, diploma engineers and technicians will be among the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nath emphasised that the installation of solar equipment would have to be backed by trained technicians capable of handling servicing and maintenance. He also said Tripura was currently meeting its domestic electricity requirements while exporting power to Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside renewable-energy expansion, the state is planning a major restructuring of Agartala\u2019s distribution infrastructure. Nath announced that the electricity network within the <strong>Agartala Municipal Corporation<\/strong> area would be shifted underground at a cost exceeding <strong>Rs 1,500 crore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said tenders had been finalised and work orders issued, with execution scheduled to begin after the elections. A Bhumi Puja is expected to precede the project in the presence of Chief Minister <strong>Dr Manik Saha<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basu said Tripura was assessing several options to address future demand, including rooftop solar, floating solar, battery energy storage, hydrokinetic projects and the rehabilitation of hydropower facilities. An <strong>800 MW hydro pumped-storage project<\/strong> is also being examined, while the state is exploring possibilities in green hydrogen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The modernisation of Agartala\u2019s electricity network will include <strong>GIS substations, SCADA systems, underground cabling and optical-fibre communication<\/strong>, with the objective of developing a smart-grid system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ADB Principal Energy Specialist <strong>James Kolantharaj<\/strong> said the roadmap seeks to integrate clean-energy development with energy security and employment generation.
