Officials discussed the progress of ongoing works, administrative challenges and measures needed to keep the projects on schedule.

The meeting brought together senior officials from the Public Works, Transport, Rural Development, Tourism and Water Resources departments, underlining the importance of coordination among multiple agencies involved in infrastructure development.

Officials presented updates on several sanctioned projects, including those progressing according to schedule as well as works facing delays due to administrative and operational issues. The Minister directed the concerned departments to identify such bottlenecks at the earliest and take corrective measures without unnecessary delay.

Chowdhury stressed that the effective utilisation of SASCI funds could play an important role in strengthening Tripura’s infrastructure network and improving connectivity across the state.

He said transport infrastructure should be viewed as a key component of economic development rather than simply a series of construction projects. Better roads and connectivity, he noted, have a direct impact on the movement of people and goods and can contribute to the growth of tourism, trade and other economic activities.

“These projects are not just about infrastructure; they are about strengthening the backbone of Tripura’s economy and improving the daily lives of our citizens,” Chowdhury said.

The Minister also emphasised accountability among implementing agencies and instructed officials to maintain close coordination while resolving pending issues. He cautioned that procedural delays should not become a reason for projects missing their targeted completion dates.

The participation of departments beyond the Transport Department was significant, as several projects involve issues related to construction, road connectivity, rural development, tourism facilities and water resources. Officials were therefore asked to maintain regular communication and address problems at the implementation stage itself.

At the same time, Chowdhury stressed that faster execution must not come at the cost of quality. Departments were advised to ensure that infrastructure created under the scheme meets the required standards and provides long-term public value.

The SASCI scheme provides financial support to states for capital investment and the creation of durable public assets. Tripura has been using the assistance to strengthen infrastructure in key sectors, with transportation and connectivity among the major areas of focus.

Improved connectivity is expected to benefit both rural and urban areas by facilitating the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods. It could also support tourism and expand economic opportunities in different parts of the state.

The latest review reflects the government’s effort to ensure that sanctioned investments translate into visible infrastructure development on the ground. With several projects requiring coordination across departments, officials have been directed to maintain momentum and resolve obstacles through timely intervention.

The Transport Department will continue to monitor the progress of priority projects, while inter-departmental coordination will remain a key part of the government’s strategy to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe.

If you want, I can also make this more like a PTI/UNI-style news report, with a sharper hard-news lead and less repetition.

Agartala, September 9: The Tripura government has stepped up its review of major transport and infrastructure projects being implemented under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, with Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury calling for faster execution and timely resolution of implementation hurdles.
