New Delhi, 08 Sep 2026:<\/strong> A 54-year-old Manipuri musician, Chongtham Vikram Singh, died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of delivery workers and dhaba employees in southeast Delhi, police said.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Monday outside Singh’s residence in Kilokari village. According to police, Singh had objected to a group of men allegedly drinking alcohol and creating a disturbance near his apartment.

A PCR call was received by the Sunlight Colony police station regarding the assault. During the preliminary investigation, police learned that Singh, a native of Manipur and a member of the Meitei community, had confronted the group over the alleged noise and nuisance.

Police said Singh was severely beaten during the confrontation. His son, Yaiphaba, took him to Holy Family Hospital for treatment, but he later died from his injuries.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault and Singh’s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police have arrested seven people in connection with the case and detained a juvenile. The arrested accused have been identified as Bharat Kumar, 19, Pramod, 26, Ramzan Khan, 22, Deepanshu, 21, Mohan Vishwakarma, 32, Vijay, 36, and Mannu, 26. According to police, all of them work at various dhabas and food stalls.

The North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU), expressed grief over Singh’s death and identified him as a respected Manipuri musician. The organisation called the incident a senseless act of violence and urged authorities to conduct a fair and comprehensive investigation.

Family Seeks Justice<\/strong>

Singh’s family has appealed for justice and an impartial investigation, stressing that they are seeking accountability rather than revenge.

Speaking at a press conference at Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday, Singh’s wife, Joshna Chongtham, said the family was struggling to cope with the sudden death of the 54-year-old musician.

The family has called for those responsible for the alleged assault to be held accountable through due legal process.
