Agartala, 05 Sep 2026<\/strong>:\u00a0 The NCC Police have arrested eight people, including Swapna Foundation owner Shubham Biswas, in connection with the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted at the rehabilitation centre.

According to police, Shahana Das Bhattacharya had admitted her husband, Tuhin Shubhra Bhattacharya, to the Swapna Foundation rehabilitation centre on August 9 for treatment. The family allegedly paid money for his admission, treatment, medicines and medical consultations.

Police said the situation took a serious turn when Tuhin was allegedly assaulted inside the rehabilitation centre. He was subsequently taken to GB Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

NCC Police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Shahana Das Bhattacharya. The case was registered as NCC PS Case No. 59\/2024 under Sections 118(1) and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police also said provisions related to criminal conspiracy and extortion are being considered\/added separately.

Police officer Paritosh Das said investigators have found sufficient evidence against the eight arrested persons. He added that a post-mortem report received recently, along with the complainant’s allegations and other evidence, formed the basis for the arrests.

During the preliminary investigation, police also found indications of physical assault, which were reportedly reflected in the medical\/post-mortem findings.

The eight arrested persons include the owner of Swapna Foundation, office staff and others who were allegedly present at the rehabilitation centre. Police said they will be produced before the court seeking police remand for further interrogation.

When asked about allegations that Swapna Foundation was previously involved in drug-related activities, police said they had no previous complaint or information of this nature on record. The officer said any specific complaint regarding drug-related activities would be investigated separately.

Police also said that, so far, the rehabilitation centre has not produced the required documents for operating such a facility, and investigators will examine the matter.

The officer rejected allegations that the arrests were made under pressure from influential persons, stating that the arrests were based on evidence. He also clarified that the offences are non-bailable, and police do not have the authority to grant bail.
