Kumarghat, Sep 4:<\/strong> Allegations of forcible collection of money in the name of Durga Puja donations have surfaced in the Kumarghat area, with a livestock vehicle driver claiming that he was harassed after refusing to pay a donation.

According to the complaint, a vehicle carrying goats was allegedly stopped near the 82 Mile Kali Temple area by a group of people who identified themselves as members of Indian Club, Kanchanbari and another local youth club.

The driver, Sudam Ranjan Saha, alleged that around 20\u201335 people followed and stopped the vehicle while it was travelling from Matsyamara towards Teliamura and Agartala.

Speaking to reporters, Saha claimed that the group forcibly took the vehicle’s keys and his mobile phone and searched the vehicle. He further alleged that the front glass of the vehicle was damaged during the incident.

Saha also claimed that around Rs 50,000, belonging to the livestock trader and kept inside the vehicle’s toolbox, was allegedly taken during the incident.

According to the driver, the group demanded money in the name of Durga Puja, although he said no specific amount was initially mentioned. He maintained that he was willing to pay a legitimate Puja donation if approached properly, but objected to alleged intimidation and harassment.

The incident reportedly caused a traffic disturbance in the area, following which the matter reached Manu Police Station. Saha said he approached the police seeking action and protection against such alleged harassment of drivers.

He appealed to the authorities to ensure that people transporting goods or livestock are not subjected to intimidation or forced collection in the name of Puja donations.
