{"id":25938,"date":"2026-09-04T07:21:34","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T07:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=25938"},"modified":"2026-09-04T07:21:59","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T07:21:59","slug":"assam-agartala-national-highway-rail-services-hit-by-72-hour-blockade-over-11-point-demands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/09\/04\/assam-agartala-national-highway-rail-services-hit-by-72-hour-blockade-over-11-point-demands\/","title":{"rendered":"Assam\u2013Agartala National Highway, Rail Services Hit by 72-Hour Blockade Over 11-Point Demands"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tripura, September 4:<\/strong> The Assam\u2013Agartala National Highway and railway services were disrupted on Friday as former insurgent groups under a joint movement platform launched a <strong>72-hour road and rail blockade<\/strong> in Tripura, pressing the government to implement commitments made under the tripartite agreement signed on September 4, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking during the agitation, <strong>Parimal Debbarma<\/strong> said seven former armed groups, including the NLFT and ATTF, had come together under a Joint Movement Committee comprising the Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and Joint Action Committee (JAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Debbarma, the groups had laid down their arms following the tripartite agreement involving the <strong>Government of India, the Government of Tripura and the armed groups<\/strong>, but claimed that none of the key commitments had been implemented so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the organisations had initially placed a <strong>nine-point charter of demands<\/strong> before the government. The surrendered cadres, he added, had handed over their identities and weapons\u2014including firearms, ammunition, grenades, rocket launchers and explosives\u2014under the surveillance of security forces such as the CRPF, BSF and Assam Rifles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debbarma alleged that despite assurances given by both the Central and State governments to facilitate rehabilitation and bring former militants into normal civilian life, their core demands remained unaddressed even decades after they had surrendered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 72-hour agitation began at <strong>6:00 AM on Friday<\/strong>, with blockades reported at several locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the organisers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hathai kotor (Chandra Sadhu Kami):<\/strong> A blockade was placed on National Highway 8.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Brigudas Kami:<\/strong> Railway tracks near the entry point were blocked, disrupting train movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Khowai Subal Singh:<\/strong> Supporters staged picketing and demonstrations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debbarma said the movement would continue unless the Chief Minister provided a <strong>concrete written assurance within the 72-hour period<\/strong>. He warned that failure to do so could lead to an <strong>indefinite agitation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He acknowledged that the blockade could cause hardship to commuters, students and patients but blamed the government for allegedly failing to act on previous assurances. He claimed that officials, including senior police officers and administrative authorities, had held discussions with the protesters during earlier demonstrations but that no substantive action followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leader also said that if any clash, casualty or damage to trains, vehicles or public property occurred during the agitation, the responsibility would rest with the State Government and administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the railway blockade, Debbarma said protesters reached the location around <strong>5:45 AM<\/strong>.
