{"id":25912,"date":"2026-09-03T13:52:23","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=25912"},"modified":"2026-09-03T13:54:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:54:21","slug":"72-hour-shutdown-called-from-september-4-highway-and-rail-blockade-threatened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/09\/03\/72-hour-shutdown-called-from-september-4-highway-and-rail-blockade-threatened\/","title":{"rendered":"72-Hour Shutdown Called From September 4; Highway and Rail Blockade Threatened"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Agartala, September 3:<\/strong> Leaders representing former insurgent groups and organisations linked to the 2024 Tripartite Accord have announced a 72-hour shutdown across Tripura from September 4, warning of road and railway blockades if their demands are not addressed.<br><br>At a press conference, Jiban Joy Reang, Joint Convener of JS\/JARC and JSC, said the organisations had repeatedly approached both the Central and state governments over the non-implementation of several provisions of the agreement signed between the Government of India, the Tripura government and the concerned groups.<br><br>According to the leaders, despite nearly two years having passed since the agreement, several issues relating to rehabilitation of returnees, former cadres and implementation of the agreed provisions remain unresolved.<br><br>The leaders said the shutdown would begin from September 4 and continue for 72 hours. If no effective steps are taken by the Centre and the state government during this period, they warned that the agitation could be extended indefinitely.<br><br>Three major locations have reportedly been identified for gatherings and protests Hathai Kotor (Baramura), the Brij Das\/Railway area and Khowai Chowmuhani.<br><br>The organisers claimed that the protests would remain peaceful and appealed to the administration not to harass participants. At the same time, they warned that if force is used or any untoward incident occurs, the government would be held responsible.<br><br>The leaders also appealed to all returnees, former cadres and supporters across Tripura to join the programme and help make the shutdown successful.<br><br>During the press conference, PD Group president Parimal Debbarma also raised questions over remarks made in the recent Assembly session regarding the surrender of arms. He said that the agreement signed in New Delhi in September 2018 did not, according to them, specify that particular groups were required to surrender a fixed number of weapons or grenades.<br><br>Debbarma said that since the Chief Minister was present during the agreement process, any specific requirement regarding arms could have been clearly incorporated into the agreement at that time.
