Para, under R.K. Pur Police Station, Gomati district, Tripura, PIN 799013<\/strong>. He has declared that he has changed his surname from <strong>\u201cGhosh\u201d to \u201cReang\u201d<\/strong> and will henceforth be known as <strong>Dipankar Reang<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-696x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25824\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-696x1024.jpg 696w, https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-204x300.jpg 204w, https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-768x1130.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-860x1265.jpg 860w, https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-760x1118.jpg 760w, https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782-150x221.jpg 150w, https:\/\/aguli.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/fb_img_17882562078974781555241033928782.jpg 1028w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Newspaper copy <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The affidavit, identified as <strong>Affidavit No. 166\/07\/26<\/strong>, states that the declaration was sworn before a Notary Public on <strong>July 20, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The YTA has expressed concern that if the surname change is being used to claim or obtain <strong>Scheduled Tribe (ST) benefits<\/strong>, it could affect the rights of genuine ST beneficiaries. The organisation has stressed that a change of surname, by itself, does not confer ST status, which must be determined under the applicable constitutional and legal provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YTA has called upon the competent authorities to conduct a <strong>fair, impartial and comprehensive verification<\/strong> of the individual&#8217;s actual community status and to examine whether any ST certificate, reservation benefit, educational opportunity, employment benefit or other ST-related facility has been claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organisation said it has already submitted a <strong>memorandum to the Minister for Tribal Welfare, Government of Tripura<\/strong>, seeking appropriate examination of the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On Monday, YTA members also visited the Tripura Secretariat<\/strong> in connection with the issue and raised their concerns before the concerned authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The YTA clarified that its objection is not against anyone&#8217;s lawful choice to change their name or surname, but concerns the alleged misuse of tribal identity or reservation provisions.
