Tripura, 31 August 2026: <\/strong>A gold chain-snatching incident involving an e-auto-rickshaw has been reported from the Ujjan Abhoynagar area of Agartala.

According to police, the incident took place on 29 August near the Buddha Mandir area, behind Shantikami Club. Two girls were walking towards the Buddha Mandir when an electric auto-rickshaw suddenly stopped in front of them. One person allegedly got down from the vehicle and snatched a gold chain from the neck of one of the girls, before fleeing the spot along with his accomplices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim, identified as Papiya Debbarma, reportedly sustained an injury on her neck during the incident. She later shared details of the incident on social media.

A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Abhoynagar Outpost on 30 August. Police examined CCTV footage from the area and clearly identified the e-auto-rickshaw allegedly used in the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the CCTV investigation, New Capital Complex (NCC) Police Station launched an operation on 31 August and detained one person from the Bitarban area. Police also detained the e-auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR01L9366.

According to police officer Subrata Barman, three people are suspected to be involved in the incident. One has already been detained, while the other two remain absconding. Police said the detained suspect confessed to his involvement, and the stolen gold chain is currently believed to be in the possession of the two absconding suspects.

The detained person is being produced before the court, and a case has been registered at NCC Police Station.

Police further stated that the detained person has no previous criminal case, although he is known in the Bitarban area.

The police have also intensified action against theft and snatching incidents in Agartala ahead of Durga Puja. According to police, around 15\u201316 people have been arrested in various theft-related cases over the past 15 days and sent to judicial custody.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
