He said Ashirbad Microfinance had reportedly been conducting business in Bisalgarh for the past five to seven years without obtaining a local trade licence, despite having licences in other urban local bodies of Tripura.

During Tuesday’s inspection, officials reportedly sought various documents from the company, including papers related to its claimed subsidiary arrangement with Manappuram. The office was sealed pending compliance with the applicable rules. Authorities said the company may approach the administration after obtaining the necessary trade licence, following which further action will be considered as per law.

The administration also alleged that several microfinance operations have emerged in different parts of Bisalgarh without fulfilling the necessary regulatory requirements.
