Tripura, 23 August 2026:<\/strong> Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Sunday visited flood-affected areas of West Tripura district and inspected relief camps, interacting with people displaced by the sudden rise in water levels following heavy rainfall.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said he received information about flooding in West Tripura and Khowai districts while he was in Amarpur. He said heavy rainfall, particularly in the Baramura area, led to waterlogging and flooding at several locations in West Tripura.

According to the Chief Minister, the water level had crossed the danger mark of 11.22 metres, but had subsequently receded to around 11.16 metres, which he described as a positive development. He said rainfall had stopped and authorities were monitoring the situation closely, including rainfall in the hills, as the situation overnight would provide a clearer picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Saha said several relief camps have been established, where affected families are being provided with food and other essential supplies. Milk and other necessities are also being provided for children. Disaster response teams have been deployed, while boats have been placed in service to assist people in affected areas.

As per the latest figures shared by the Chief Minister, 17 relief camps have been opened across West Tripura and Khowai districts, accommodating around 413 families and approximately 1,305 affected people. He said the impact has been greater in West Tripura, while Khowai district has been comparatively less affected.

The Chief Minister also said the government is considering long-term solutions to reduce the impact of flooding, including strengthening existing embankments.
