He said the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, has always given priority to the interests and convenience of the common people.

The minister said the government had seriously considered concerns among consumers over the increased electricity tariff and decided not to pass the additional burden on to them. Instead, the state will provide a subsidy to cover the entire additional amount.

According to Nath, electricity tariffs had increased by around 116% cumulatively between 2010–11 and 2017–18, while the overall increase between 2018–19 and 2026–27 was around 40.42%.

Under the latest decision, the additional electricity tariff burden arising from the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC)-approved tariff order for 2026–27 will be fully borne by the state government through subsidies.

The subsidy will cover various categories of consumers, including domestic consumers, small, medium and large businesses, farmers and industries. The excess amount paid by such consumers will be adjusted against their subsequent bills. The subsidy will be considered effective from May 2026, and the amounts already paid in excess will be adjusted in instalments through the September, October and November bills.

The minister clarified that electricity tariff fixation is the responsibility of the independent regulatory body, the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC).
