Agartala, August 16:<\/strong> Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha highlighted the state government’s achievements in governance, infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism and social welfare while addressing the main Independence Day celebration at Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Chief Minister said the state government has been working with a strong focus on creating economic opportunities for nearly 40 lakh people and improving their quality of life through a people-oriented governance system.

He said Tripura has received more than 360 national and regional awards over the past eight years for good governance, transparent administration and administrative efficiency. The state has also successfully implemented the e-Office system from the highest levels of administration down to the panchayat level, making Tripura the only state in the country to achieve this, he claimed.

According to the Chief Minister, Tripura has doubled its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) within six years, while its average per capita income has reached the national average. The state has also ranked first in the country for the last two consecutive years in the Compliance Reduction and De-regulation exercise.

Referring to the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, Saha said the state government signed 468 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with a potential investment commitment of around \u20b91.32 lakh crore. The agreements cover major sectors of the state’s economy and reflect growing investor interest in Tripura.

The Chief Minister also highlighted achievements in rural development. Sipahijala Zilla Parishad received the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar as the best district panchayat in the country, while Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat of Unakoti district was recognised as the country’s best Healthy Panchayat under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar.

Saha said Tripura, with a literacy rate of more than 95 percent, has been recognised as the country’s third “fully literate” state. He also congratulated state athlete Asmita De, who won India’s first gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

On agriculture and allied sectors, the Chief Minister said financial assistance under the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme was directly transferred to the bank accounts of around 2.30 lakh farmers last year. Under the Kisan Credit Card scheme, 56,600 farmers received loans worth \u20b9438 crore.

Under the Mukhyamantri Prani Sampad Vikas Yojana, 30,414 beneficiaries received assistance, while 5,000 livestock farmers were recognised under the Pranipalak Samman Nidhi. A total of 21,311 animals have been brought under the state’s livestock insurance programme.

To strengthen the fisheries sector, 1,10,659 fish farmers and fisherfolk have been covered under the Group Accident Insurance Scheme. The government is also developing an Agar International Trade and Research Centre in Agartala and an Integrated Agarwood Cluster at Kadamtala to strengthen Tripura’s position in the global agar market.

Highlighting tourism development, Saha said work is progressing on a replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Udaipur. Tourism infrastructure is also being developed at major destinations including Kasba Kalibari, Chaturdasha Devata Temple, Sonamukhi in Kailashahar, Chabimura, Amarsagar and Fatik Sagar with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank.

A 100-bed Taj Pushpabanta Palace Hotel is also under construction in Agartala. Under the Matabari Tourism Circuit, projects have been taken up for the development of Amarsagar, Jora Dweep at Narikelkunja, Kalyan Sagar, water-based tourism facilities and a multi-level car parking facility at Matabari.

On healthcare, the Chief Minister said Tripura has made significant progress in medical education, healthcare infrastructure and specialised medical services. Work is progressing on the establishment of Tripura University of Health Sciences, while nine kidney transplants have been successfully completed in the state so far.

New district hospitals are being constructed in Khowai and Sepahijala, while sub-divisional hospitals are being developed at Jirania, Mohanpur and Udaipur. The Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital at Jackson Gate in Agartala has already started functioning with modern facilities, including evening OPD services.

Under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, more than 5.70 lakh beneficiaries have received cashless treatment, involving expenditure of over \u20b9307 crore.

The government has also initiated steps to launch the Tripura Government Homeopathy Medical College and Netaji Subhash Homeopathic Hospital in Agartala, along with the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Udaipur, from the 2026-27 academic session.

In education, 125 Vidyajyoti schools are being developed as centres of excellence. A total of 1,64,309 bicycles have been distributed among Class IX girl students. Classes have also started at Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College from the 2026-27 academic session, while the Women’s College is being upgraded into Tripura Government Women’s University.

Under the Mukhyamantri Skill Development scheme, more than 12,000 youths have completed training, with around 2,200 securing employment.

The Chief Minister said the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission has brought nearly 4.96 lakh rural women into 55,693 Self-Help Groups. The groups have received \u20b9837 crore in community funds and \u20b92,400 crore in bank credit.

To strengthen the state’s startup ecosystem, T-NEST (Tripura Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Startups) has been established at Hapania. A Tripura IT and Data Ecosystem Zone has also been proposed to attract investments in IT, ITES and data centres, alongside the development of an IT park.

Tripura has ranked first among the northeastern and Himalayan states in the implementation of AMRUT 2.0, particularly in urban water supply and infrastructure development, the Chief Minister said.

In the power sector, the Rokhia Thermal Power Station is being upgraded into a 120 MW combined-cycle plant. Solar power is also being used to electrify tribal households in remote areas, while rooftop solar systems and solar-powered irrigation pumps are being promoted under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Preparatory work is progressing to upgrade the Agartala\u2013Churaibari and Agartala\u2013Udaipur national highways to four lanes.

Of the state’s total 2.55 lakh hectares of cultivable land, irrigation facilities have been extended to 1.24 lakh hectares, including an additional 1,484 hectares during the last year. Drinking water facilities have been provided to around 6.49 lakh rural households.

The state government procured around 52,238 metric tonnes of paddy from farmers last year to ensure remunerative prices. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, 1.57 lakh metric tonnes of rice were distributed free of cost.

Saha said serious crimes in the state declined by around 10 percent last year, while intensified anti-drug operations resulted in record seizures of narcotic substances. Under the Emergency Response Support System, police maintained an average response time of eight minutes in Agartala and 14 minutes in other areas.

The Chief Minister also highlighted developments in sports infrastructure, including a synthetic football turf in Udaipur, indoor halls in Dharmanagar and Teliamura, a basketball court at NSRCC Agartala, a tennis court in Khowai and 20 open gyms across the state. The third edition of the Para Games was also successfully organised to promote athletes with disabilities.

Under the historic quadripartite agreement, 6,935 Bru families have been rehabilitated at 12 locations across four districts. Around 6,000 youth from the Reang community have also received skill development training.

For Scheduled Caste students pursuing professional courses, 929 students received one-time financial assistance of \u20b950,000 each. Smart classrooms have been introduced in 100 ST hostels, while 12 Eklavya Model Residential Schools are currently operational.

More than 6,700 Jhumia families have received assistance under the Jhum Cultivation Assistance Scheme. The Mukhyamantri Rubber Mission has benefited around 29,000 families.

Under PM-JANMAN, construction of permanent houses for 17,000 families, electrification of more than 11,000 households, establishment of 30 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, 226 Anganwadi centres and 32 hostels, along with road and mobile connectivity in remote settlements, are among the initiatives undertaken.

A total of 102 Anganwadi centres have been upgraded into English-medium model Anganwadi centres. Ten working women’s hostels are under construction, while four Sakhi Niwas hostels are already operational. More than 3.87 lakh eligible beneficiaries have been brought under social security pensions.

Saha said these achievements, spanning agriculture, industry, healthcare, education, women’s and youth empowerment, infrastructure and environmental protection, reflect the government’s commitment to building “Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura.”

During the main Independence Day ceremony, 16 security and non-security platoons participated in the parade. The BSF platoon secured first place in the security category, followed by Assam Rifles and West Tripura District Police. In the non-security category, Assam Rifles Public School secured first place, followed by the NCC Girls platoon and Civil Defence platoon.

The Chief Minister presented awards to the winning platoon commanders. A colourful cultural programme was also organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Education Department, TTAADC and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
