Agartala, August 10, 2026:<\/strong> The Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and Joint Action Committee (JAC), representing surrendered cadres of former militant groups, have withdrawn their proposed indefinite road and railway blockade scheduled to begin on August 13, following assurances from the Tripura government that their nine-point charter of demands would be addressed.

The organisations had earlier announced an indefinite blockade of National Highway-8 and railway tracks as part of a \u201cGen-Z Youth Aggressive Movement\u201d and described the agitation as a \u201cdo-or-die\u201d campaign over their long-pending demands.

The decision to withdraw the blockade was announced on Monday after a series of discussions with government officials and consultations with the organisations\u2019 central and block-level committees.

A high-level meeting was held on August 5 at the Gorkhabasti Conference Hall under the leadership of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma. Senior officials from various line departments participated in the meeting, where the nine-point charter of demands submitted by JARC and JAC was discussed in detail.

The meeting also focused on coordination among different departments and measures for resolving the issues raised by the surrendered groups.

On August 10, a three-member delegation comprising JARC President Uttam Joy Reang, JARC and JAC Convener Jiban Joy Reang, and Assistant Secretary Narayan Debbarma met Special Branch SP Chandan Saha at his office.

During the meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, the delegation sought an official meeting with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha either at his official residence or at the Secretariat before August 10.

The delegation was informed that the Chief Minister was in New Delhi on official duty. According to the organisations, officials assured them that the Chief Minister would meet their representatives after August 15, following his return to Tripura.

The organisations were also informed that the Chief Minister had instructed officials to work towards an early resolution of the issues concerning surrendered militants, with an assurance that their nine-point demands would be implemented within three months.

With Independence Day celebrations scheduled across the state on August 15, authorities, including Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Special Branch officials and senior police officers, appealed to JARC and JAC to postpone their agitation to maintain peace and avoid inconvenience to the public.

Following these assurances, the leadership of both organisations held consultations with their central and block-level committees at Kumarghat.

JARC, representing pre-1998 returnees, and JAC, representing post-1998 surrendered cadres, subsequently decided to withdraw the indefinite road and railway blockade planned for August 13.

The organisations had earlier proposed blocking NH-8 near Chandra Sadhu Para (Sadrai Twisa) and Hathai Kotor at Champaknagar Bridge, along with a railway track blockade at Athuk Kwthang Twisa near Brigudas Kami.

However, JARC and JAC warned that the withdrawal is conditional on the government fulfilling its assurances. The organisations said that if the Chief Minister fails to meet them after August 15 or fails to take steps towards resolving their demands within the promised timeframe, they may announce their next course of action.
