Tripura, 09 August 2026:<\/strong> In a joint operation based on a tip-off, Sonamura Police Station and the 131 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 25 bottles of Escuf syrup allegedly meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sonamura.

According to police, the operation was conducted near the border fencing at Ward No. 2 of UNC Nagar under Sonamura Police Station. Acting on information about a local drug smuggler transporting contraband on a motorcycle, police and BSF personnel laid an ambush in the area.

When the suspect spotted the police and BSF vehicles, he attempted to flee. During the chase, he abandoned his Pulsar 150 motorcycle bearing registration number TR-07G-9155 along with a plastic bag and escaped from the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police subsequently searched the motorcycle and the abandoned bag in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and recovered 25 bottles of Escuf syrup. The seized items and motorcycle were brought to Sonamura Police Station.

Sonamura Police said a case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and an investigation is underway to identify the person who fled and others allegedly involved in the smuggling network.

Police further stated that the operation was part of intensified surveillance along the border. Ambushes had reportedly been conducted in the area over the past two days, with the operation succeeding on the third attempt.

Meanwhile, during mobile patrolling last night along the Batadola\u2013Baler Dhipa border road under Sonamura Police Station, personnel recovered another major consignment of narcotics. A total of 34 kg of ganja was found concealed in a jungle area near the border and subsequently seized.

The combined market value of the seized narcotics is estimated at approximately \u20b96.80 lakh.

Police said strict legal action will be taken against all persons found to be involved in the transportation and smuggling of narcotic substances.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
