As part of the heightened vigilance, Baijalbari Police in Khowai district rescued 10 cattle allegedly being taken towards the international border for smuggling into Bangladesh and detained one person in connection with the incident.<br><br>According to police, the operation was launched on Friday after receiving confidential intelligence about a group allegedly attempting to smuggle cattle through the Belchhora-Begamtila area.<br><br>Acting on the tip-off, a police team reached the area and conducted a raid. Police reportedly spotted four to five suspects at the location. However, upon noticing the police team, the suspects attempted to flee. While several managed to escape, police succeeded in detaining one person from the spot.<br><br>Baijalbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Samaresh Chakma said the operation was carried out after police received information about an attempt to smuggle cattle across the India-Bangladesh border.<br><br>During interrogation, the detained person allegedly admitted to his involvement in the smuggling operation, police said. The investigation further indicated that the 10 cattle recovered from the area were allegedly being taken towards Bangladesh.<br><br>According to the officer, the detained suspect was accompanied by three other individuals, who managed to flee after the police arrived. Police have launched a search operation to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects allegedly involved in the racket.<br><br>A case has been registered against the detained person. Following the initial investigation, police sought custody for further interrogation and investigation into the wider network.<br><br>The accused was produced before the Khowai District and Sessions Court on Saturday along with a prayer for police remand.<br><br>Police said the initial intelligence was received between around 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Friday, following which the operation was launched.<br><br>With Independence Day celebrations scheduled for August 15, security measures and patrolling have been further strengthened in sensitive border areas.
