He said the party had earlier sought an opportunity to discuss the matter directly with the Election Commission of India (ECI), which advised the party to present its concerns before the Chief Electoral Officer in Tripura.

Debbarma said the party’s primary concern is that the same enumeration format is being used for both general areas and TTAADC areas, despite differences in the legal framework governing citizenship. He argued that provisions of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, are not applicable in Sixth Schedule areas, and therefore the criteria for determining Indian citizenship and ordinary residence should be reflected separately during the electoral roll revision in ADC areas.

According to IPFT, the current SIR exercise is based on the 2005 electoral rolls, which may still contain doubtful or ineligible voters. The party urged the Election Commission to incorporate specific provisions for TTAADC areas in the enumeration forms so that such cases can be identified more effectively.

The memorandum also sought clarification on the criteria that would be used to determine Indian citizenship and ordinary residence for voters residing within the tribal autonomous district.

On the issue of Village Committee elections, Debbarma said IPFT is fully prepared to participate in the polls. However, he reiterated the party’s demand for amendments to the existing legal provisions concerning reservation of Village Committee chairperson posts.

He contended that reserving 13 Village Committee chairperson posts for Scheduled Castes is inconsistent with the original provisions of the ADC Act, which provide reservation only for Scheduled Tribes while allowing other seats to remain unreserved. IPFT urged the government to amend the law by replacing the SC-reserved posts with unreserved ones before conducting the elections.

Despite this demand, Debbarma said the party has no objection to holding the Village Committee elections and is ready to contest whenever they are announced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Agartala, August 6: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, raising concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and seeking separate provisions for Sixth Schedule areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
