Agartala, August 3<\/strong>: A day after allegations surfaced that food meant for students at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Girls’ Hostel on Jagannath Bari Road was being stolen, Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma<\/strong> visited the hostel on Monday to inspect the situation and review the facilities.

Accompanied by the District Welfare Officer and other officials, the minister conducted an on-site inspection after reports of serious irregularities were highlighted in the media.

Speaking to reporters, Debbarma said he had noticed several shortcomings in the hostel’s management and directed officials to address all issues within the day. He emphasized that the state government, under the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, had increased the daily food allowance for hostel students by \u20b920, taking it to \u20b9100 per student per day, and that students should receive the quality of food and care intended under the scheme.

The minister alleged that reports indicated some hostel workers were allegedly taking away essential food items, including onions, potatoes and vegetables meant for the students. He instructed officials to initiate appropriate action against those found responsible.

He also stated that the hostel superintendent was reportedly unwell and unable to effectively oversee the hostel’s operations. Accordingly, he directed officials to relieve her from the current responsibility and ensure better management of the hostel.

Debbarma stressed that the students, particularly those from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, represent the future of the state and deserve a safe and supportive environment for their education. He assured that all deficiencies in the hostel would be rectified by the following day.

Responding to a question on whether corruption was involved in the incident, the minister announced that the Tribal Welfare Department would introduce a biometric attendance system across hostels in Tripura. Under the new system, students will mark attendance through fingerprint authentication, which he said would improve transparency and accountability.

He further confirmed that the biometric system will be implemented in all government hostels across Tripura as part of the government’s initiative to strengthen transparent administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
