Agartala, July 26<\/strong>: In a grand celebration of sporting excellence, the Agartala Sports Journalists Club (ASJC) on Sunday organised the Kings Lin Presents Jagmohan Dalmiya Memorial Tripura Sports Awards 2026, bringing together some of the biggest names in Tripura’s sporting fraternity at Agartala Club, adjacent to the MBB Stadium.

The prestigious annual awards ceremony witnessed the presence of Olympic gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Tripura’s Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, senior sports journalists from Kolkata, former and current athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and eminent personalities from various fields.

The programme commenced with a traditional welcome for the distinguished guests, followed by the ceremonial watering of a sapling to mark the official inauguration. Welcoming the gathering, the Club Secretary highlighted the organisation’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence and promoting sports culture in the state.

Veteran sportsperson Kamal Saha delivered the Jagmohan Dalmiya Memorial Lecture, paying tribute to the legendary cricket administrator’s enduring contribution to Indian and world cricket. This was followed by addresses from prominent guests, including Subhen Raha, Archishman Bhattacharya, Rupak Basu, Dipa Karmakar, Tripura Sports Council Secretary Sukanta Ghosh, and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, all of whom lauded the initiative of the Agartala Sports Journalists Club in honouring the state’s sporting achievers.

Named in memory of the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, one of the most influential administrators in the history of international cricket, the awards recognised the outstanding achievements of eight sportspersons and five coaches for their exceptional performances and contributions to sports. The ceremony also conferred Lifetime Achievement Honours on veteran sports journalist Subhen Raha and renowned sports organiser Manik Kazi for their invaluable service to the sporting community.

The Best Coach Awards were presented to Alok Debray, Joy Kishore Debbarma, Ruma Das, Subodh Debbarma, and Amiya Kumar Das.

The Sportsperson of the Year Awards were conferred on Jhumki Debnath, Saptajit Das, Shreyangshi Roy, Jabet Darlong, Gaurab Debbarma, Rikson Debbarma, Ritwika Das, and Akash Bhowmik.

The Best Coaching Centre Award was presented to Agiye Chalo Sangha Coaching Centre, Melarmath, Agartala.

The awards were presented by the distinguished guests along with Subrata Debbarma, Timir Chand, Subrata Dutta Chowdhury, Arup Ratan Saha, Apu Roy, Surya Kanta Pal, Krishnapada Sarkar, and Sumanta Gupta.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the event featured a mega lucky draw and a vibrant cultural programme. Young performers from Kanak Kunjali Nritya Sanstha enthralled the audience with captivating dance performances, while flautist Aniket Das mesmerised the gathering with his musical recital. The programme was skilfully anchored by Shubhajit Bhattacharya, whose engaging presentation kept the audience entertained throughout the evening.

As the curtain came down on the event, participants and guests unanimously hailed the ceremony as a landmark initiative for Tripura’s sporting community.
