The protest led to a brief tense situation after police attempted to clear the blockade.<br><br>The Khowai\u2013Agartala road has remained in a severely deteriorated condition for a long time, with large potholes, muddy stretches, and waterlogging causing daily hardship for commuters, drivers, and local residents. Protesters alleged that despite repeated appeals to the administration, no permanent measures had been taken to repair the road.<br><br>The demonstration was led by Congress leaders Kartik Debnath, Pradyut Bhattacharjee, Ashok Baidya, and other party members. They sat on the road, demanding immediate restoration of the highway, safe transportation for the public, and an end to the prolonged inconvenience faced by residents.<br><br>The blockade resulted in long traffic jams on both sides of the Khowai\u2013Agartala road, leaving buses, private vehicles, goods carriers, and more than a hundred vehicles stranded. Many passengers were forced to wait for hours, facing considerable inconvenience.<br><br>Police and administrative officials rushed to the spot to restore normal traffic. As they urged the protesters to lift the blockade, a heated exchange broke out between the police and Congress workers, briefly escalating tensions in the area. The situation was later brought under control following discussions between the administration and Congress leaders.<br><br>Congress leaders accused the state government and administration of ignoring the problems faced by the public, claiming that repeated requests for road repairs had gone unanswered. They warned of launching a larger mass movement if repair work is not initiated immediately.<br><br>Meanwhile, the administration assured the protesters that their demands would be forwarded to the higher authorities for necessary action.
