The incident later triggered a prolonged national highway blockade over the detention of a local man by police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accident occurred on Monday on the national highway near Jaruilong Bari in the Chakmaghat area under Teliamura police station. According to eyewitnesses, Pramod Das was crossing the road when an unidentified speeding vehicle hit him and fled the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local residents and passers-by alerted the fire and emergency services. Teliamura fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the critically injured man before shifting him to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doctors found multiple serious injuries on his body, including a fracture to his right leg. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment. However, Pramod Das later succumbed to his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following his death, Teliamura police detained a person from the Jaruilong Bari area on suspicion and took him to the police station for questioning. The police action sparked anger among local residents, who questioned how the person could be detained without, they alleged, any evidence being presented against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents subsequently blocked the national highway from around 9 pm. The blockade continued until nearly 1:30 am, disrupting traffic for several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The situation became tense during the protest. Journalists were reportedly repeatedly prevented from covering the incident. An ambulance was also allegedly stopped at the blockade and forced to take an alternative route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senior police and administrative officials, including additional Khowai district police officials, the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer, the Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura police station and DCM Genius Debbarma, reached the spot to bring the situation under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After prolonged discussions, the blockade was eventually withdrawn following assurances from the Teliamura police.
