Kumar found Shankar Das alias Abhi, a resident of Gournagar in Kailashahar subdivision, guilty under Section 376(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court also imposed a fine of \u20b910,000, with an additional three months&#8217; imprisonment if the fine is not paid.<br><br>According to the prosecution, the survivor had been working as a domestic helper at a house in Chirakuti, Kailashahar, for nearly 10 years. During a wedding ceremony at the residence, the accused, who was driving a vehicle in the wedding procession, allegedly forced the woman into his Mahindra Marazzo and raped her inside the vehicle. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.<br><br>The crime remained undisclosed for several months until the survivor showed signs of pregnancy. Upon being questioned, she narrated the incident. It was later revealed that she was eight months pregnant. She subsequently gave birth to a child, and both the survivor and the child are currently living in a shelter home.<br><br>Following a complaint lodged by a relative on November 4, 2022, Kailashahar Women Police Station registered a case. The investigation was initially conducted by Investigating Officer Mousumi Debbarma and later taken over by Shibani Debbarma, who filed the charge sheet on December 31, 2022.<br><br>During the trial, medical and DNA evidence established that the convicted man was the biological father of the child born to the survivor. The prosecution examined 17 witnesses, and the court found the evidence sufficient to convict the accused.<br><br>The case was prosecuted by Additional Public Prosecutor Konkon Debbarma.
