Agartala, June 23:<\/strong> A brutal murder in Kathaltali area of West Tripura has triggered shock and tension among local residents after Samir Das, secretary of Tarun Sangha Club, was allegedly hacked to death by two youths in the early hours of Monday.

According to police, the incident took place between 2:30 am and 3:00 am. Preliminary investigations suggest that two individuals were involved in the attack. Police have already arrested one accused, while efforts are underway to apprehend the second suspect.

Speaking to the media, police officials said a dog squad and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team visited the crime scene to collect evidence. Senior officers also inspected the area as part of the ongoing investigation.

“We have arrested one accused and are actively searching for the other. The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, and more details will be revealed after the inquiry progresses,” a police official said.

Police have urged residents not to take the law into their own hands and assured that the investigation is being conducted professionally and impartially. Security has been strengthened in the area, with CRPF personnel and additional police forces deployed to maintain law and order.

Family members of the deceased have alleged that the murder was the result of a long-standing personal feud. Samir Das’s sister claimed that her brother was returning home after attending a social gathering when he was allegedly intercepted near a Kali temple. She alleged that the attackers stopped his scooter and carried out a violent assault using sharp weapons.

The victim’s family further claimed that there had been previous disputes and threats involving the accused. According to relatives, tensions between the parties had existed for a considerable period, and they believe the attack was premeditated.

The killing has sparked anger and grief among local residents, with many demanding swift justice for the victim. Police are continuing their investigation and are expected to question additional witnesses as they work to establish the exact sequence of events and motive behind the crime.
