Supreme Court Clears Path for ADC Village Committee Elections; Poll Process to Begin in September<\/strong>

Agartala\/New Delhi, 16 June 2026<\/strong>: After a prolonged legal battle, the long-pending elections to the Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are set to be held beginning in the first week of September, according to an affidavit submitted by the State Election Commission before the Supreme Court.

Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma welcomed the development, calling it a significant victory for the people of the state and a restoration of democratic rights.

“After years of legal struggle, I am glad to say that the State Election Commission has agreed to hold the elections starting from the first week of September in its affidavit before the Hon’ble Supreme Court. This is a huge relief and victory for the people of our state. Our rights have been restored through the collective efforts of the people,” Pradyot said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the tentative election schedule submitted before the Court, the notification for nominations is expected to be issued on September 1, 2026, with the nomination process continuing until September 8. Scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations are proposed between September 9 and 11, followed by a 15-day campaign period from September 12 to 26.

Polling is tentatively scheduled for September 27, while any repoll, if required, would be conducted on October 1. Counting of votes is proposed for October 3, and the entire election process is expected to be completed by October 5, 2026.

Pradyot stated that the Supreme Court’s intervention marks an important step toward safeguarding democratic participation in the TTAADC area and ending the prolonged delay in the Village Committee elections.

The Village Committee elections had remained pending for an extended period due to ongoing legal proceedings. The latest developments have now cleared the way for the electoral process to move forward within a defined timeline, bringing relief to thousands of voters across the ADC areas.
