Uttarpradesh, May 29:<\/strong> At least six construction workers lost their lives after a portion of an under-construction bridge over the Betwa River collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district during the early hours of Friday. Several others were injured, while rescue teams continued efforts to locate anyone who may still be trapped beneath the debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when a concrete slab of the bridge suddenly gave way, bringing down a section of the structure under construction. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local administration, and police rushed to the site and launched rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities confirmed that six workers died in the accident, and five of the victims have already been identified. A few workers who were present at the site at the time of the collapse were stranded atop bridge pillars and were later rescued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arvind Kumar Verma stated that search operations were continuing to ensure that no one remained trapped under the rubble. Heavy machinery has been deployed to remove debris and assist rescue personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge project, reportedly worth around \u20b988 crore, was being constructed to improve connectivity in the region. The cause of the collapse has not yet been officially determined, though local reports indicated that adverse weather conditions may have prevailed during the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over safety standards at major infrastructure projects, particularly regarding the protection of construction workers. An official inquiry into the collapse is expected to be conducted to determine the circumstances leading to the accident and identify any lapses in construction or safety protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
