Tripura, 21 May 2026<\/strong>: Tension gripped the Kachuchhara market area under the 47 Ambassa Assembly Constituency in Dhalai District on Thursday morning as residents, including women protesters and school students, staged massive road blockades demanding immediate restoration of electricity and drinking water facilities.

The protestors blocked the Ambassa\u2013Kachuchhara road and several key routes, severely disrupting vehicular movement for hours and causing major inconvenience to commuters and local residents.

According to the agitators, the Bhim Sabar Para area has remained without electricity for the last 9 to 10 days. Due to the prolonged power outage, the locality is also facing an acute drinking water crisis, forcing residents \u2014 especially children, women, and elderly people \u2014 to suffer immensely amid the scorching heat.

Members of the women\u2019s protest group alleged that despite repeatedly informing the Salema Substation and the electricity department about the issue, no permanent solution has been provided. Instead, officials allegedly continued giving false assurances such as \u201cpower will be restored today\u201d or \u201ctomorrow,\u201d without taking effective action.

One angry woman protester said,

> \u201cWe are being treated like puppets. There is no electricity, no water for days. Small children are suffering and unable to study. We are forced to stay in darkness at night. Whenever we call the electricity office, the phone is either busy or switched off. Where are we supposed to go?\u201d



Locals further alleged that power disruptions have become a regular problem in the area. Even minor storms or rainfall reportedly result in electricity being cut off for several days, while no long-term measures are taken to solve the recurring issue.

Residents expressed strong resentment against the Salema Substation electricity office, claiming that calls to the office mostly go unanswered, with phone lines either busy or switched off. Protesters accused both the administration and the electricity department of gross negligence and indifference, which they say forced common people onto the streets.

After receiving information about the blockade, police from Kachuchhara Police Station reached the spot and attempted to bring the situation under control. Officials held discussions with the agitators and assured them that efforts would be made to resolve the crisis.

However, the protesters made it clear that their movement would continue until regular electricity and drinking water services are restored in the area. They also warned of launching a larger agitation in the coming days if the problems remain unresolved.

Notably, just two to three days ago, the same area witnessed another major road blockade over drinking water shortages. With repeated protests now erupting over basic civic amenities, serious questions are being raised about the role and responsiveness of the administration and concerned departments.
